set the chassis at 12" belly height and rolled the diff under at what would be ride hight on the 39s so can see what full bump will be like.

pushed the diff out infront of the motor and have 1" of clearance between truss and crank pully

Image

makes the steering truss out in front of the chassis

Image

upper link clears the frame and motor, if i move the diff side of the link in anymore it will get to close to the oil filter

Image

Image

but front drive shaft and my exhaust look like they will be in the same spot right now. i can cut the header collector back and maybe even put a 45 or 90 on it. if i have to i will build a new header for the drive side. no issues with pass side

bbf headers dont work like that :headbang:

once i have the links in and full bump set ill have a better idea of what im working with and can start figuring that out

welded some link mouts up and cut links to length and tacked everything so could get the front diff under the buggy. gained 1.5 inches of extra uptravel once links where in place, new limiting factor is now the p/s pump and link clearance. im already sitting at a 12 inch belly height at full bump so not going to try and get any more uptravel as that should make my links flat at ride height with 6-7 inchs of uptravel

weld washers seem to make everything look better

Image

Image

pump is not fully mounted so will go up a little but still this is getting close at full bump

Image

no issues on pass side

shop helper kept trying to be in all the pictures

Image

liking the look of it so far with the 39s on it

got the rear diff stripped and truss welded up, will just tack it to the diff till i get pinion angle set ect next weekend

Image

also scored a very well used bladder fuel cell, was just going to use my aluminium one but this will pass tech if i ever want to go race. will have to build a mount and fix the cell can up a bit but is a good start

weld washers are proof you are building a race car and have made it in life :flipoff:

broke dick redneck wheelers can't afford the time to do it, so it helps set the quality apart :pimp:

mig welds hold the world together

I work on helicopters, so everything is tig welded because it's AL or Ni or Stainless and it's all thin nonsense. my new guy really only ever did stick welding before, so i make him tig everything.

had some BS cart thing come in and finally let him use the MIG welder, damn near blew his mind how quick and painless it was :lmao: "yeah, that's why i don't normally let you use that thing" :flipoff:

Yup, if you actually want the job done in a reasonable timeline use the MIG.

got the rear link mounts and links done this weekend so buggy has all 4 tires on it now, set the wheel base at 120 and 18" belly height for ride height.

have to shorten the upper links as pinion angle is out right now but thats an easy fix

Image

i put the drivetrain in the chassis centered, the rear diff is not a center pinion as normally drive train is offset in the ford trucks. so drive shaft will not be straight in the buggy, no sure if i like this or should try and move the drivetrain over. looking at the room in the engine bay i can only move it over inch and half max so still might not line up with the pinion

Image

lots of room with the 39s and chassis clearance, rolled the 44 up beside and little more of a tight fit so cant move diff foward anymore

Image

Image

Image

then set it at ride height to get a real feel for the buggy, will be about a foot lower roof height then the truck was

I don't think that driveshaft offset will be enough to matter. People seem to make worse work, or similar but with shorter shafts.

thanks man, its really hard not to build mounts for the grille right now instead of clamping it on. need to build the little bumper deal and figure all that out as plan on having the winch behind the grille.

ya been thinking about it all day and just going to leave the drivetrain where it is and run the diff offset as the angle are not that bad so dont see it being an issue. im pretty sure the shaft wasnt straight in the truck as well and it ran smooth
