jeep yj high steer options

ok you jeep people asking for some input.customer has a yj with a spring over on stock axles. whoever did the springover just heated the draglink up to give it the right bends to clear the springs. of course that has since broken numerous times with the last time it folded right up. is there a cheap alternative customer doesnt have a huge budget.

Eh. Not really. A WJ knuckle and going crossover is probably the cheapest option. You need a shim/spacer thing to weld to the knuckle so it will accept a YJ or other 5x4.5 unit bearing.

I'm not sure if you can get away with just doing one knuckle or if you have to change both and then run the WJ brakes. The WJ brakes are an upgrade but need to be ground to clear most 15" wheels from what I remember.

I've never done it either way.

ive found several knuckle options out there to basically turn it into a crossover setup. I dont have the vehicle at my shop so its hard to brain storm a simple solution. its mostly a farm rig checking fences chasing cows

m.o.r.e makes a elaborate bolt on high steer attachment that also includes replacing the entire steering setup
teraflex makes a replacement knuckle assembly then id have to find a draglink assembly to replace this wadded up one as well

How hack are you willing to go? And what's the actual budget?

The Teraflex knuckle is probably the most right way. I'm not sure how easy it is to get the tie rod taps for those little TREs that Jeep used, but I'm sure you could just ream to the 1 ton taper and use all off the shelf stuff from TMR and whatever.

When I did Trevors ghetto Highsteer on the Jimmy I just drilled the TRE holes out to 3/4 and welded a mount and gusset to the knuckle Used a 3/4" bolt to go through it and down to the factory drag link location, and swapped over to 3/4 heims. Worked mint.

I was going to say just weld an arm on and plate it if you're willing. Not sure how official this work is though.

In my opinion the only real reason you can't do that and have it work fine is because people either blotch the welding or do not add enough material to reinforce the knuckle where they attached it.
