Time to get my ass back in gear on this build and knock it out. Heres going back to unboxing and installing the RE lift parts. The kit I went with was a 4.5" extreme Duty Long arm kit. Main reason with going with the kit is I hoped it would save me a ton of time fabrication all the brackets and figuring out geometry. Also another bonus was i can get each individual part on amazon, so if I wad something up I can replace it quite easy. All the brackets and mounts were pretty well built and I was impressed. All 1/4" and powder coated

Parts went in pretty good. Grinding the undercoating was basically the worst part. This is the rear set up

Rear lower link arm mount.

And the rear upper mounts. They tie in to the lowers and over to the other side. Again, installed nice and parts are beefier than expected

Heres the front radius arm mounts, and it to ties into the other side and also the t-case mount and skid. Lots of holes to drill but all lined up for the most part

Rear diff slung under for mock up. Hard to see but the trac bar and mount are having relationship issues with the gas tank skid. Removed the skid and clearanced some but still needs a bit more

Nice to see process on this one. Especially with the insanity fab clean up that will be needed

Yeah it needs to get done as my Wife is all over me about it haha. And unfortunately the Skinny Chicken will be down for quite some time. Its Smashed to shit and will need all new body panels on the passenger side :lmao: . Needs new front locker and a motor, so will be awhile saving up and gathering parts.

A trick I found for the factory undercoat was to spray it down with kleen-flo 313 brake clean and wipe it off with a rag. It will basically wipe off in one or two passes. Otherwise it plugs up anything you try to grind, sand, or otherwise mechanically remove it with. Once you do that the paint comes off nicely with a flap disk or whatever.

RE builds solid quality parts for sure, I think you'll be happy with them.

I have found the same, i also use an air power gasket scraper like what you can buy at pa and it works really well for the bulk of it then wipe the rest.

Yeah for sure. We generally do the Telkwa pass once a year. Would like to head up Trapper and check it out

So finally got around to rolling this thing back into the garage. Started picking away at a few nagging items that had me head scratching. Pulled the headlight bezel out

I need to cut more of the front inner fender out but had items taking up space, and some just in the wrong area. Driver side Charcoal canister hanging way down and passenger side had the horn taking up space

I had already removed the horns but this is where I need to cut. The horns were up in that pocket and pretty susceptible to damage once I cut out all the sheet metal

So removed the bezel because I noticed the headlight buckets had a lot of room in them and wanted to see if I could mount both items behind the lights as space is at a premium on this thing as there is no room at all for anything extra

These are the horns and bracket that was mounted underneath. I removed the bracket and mounted the horns inside the bucket under the headlight

Now onto the driver side. Canister wouldn’t fit in the bucket so decide to tuck it up in behind the bumper flat. Had to make a simple bracket to mount it

Spun up a small bushing spacer and welded a nut to it to mount under the headlight bucket

I pushed it as far forward as I could to give the tire as much room as possible. And made up new lines

I almost can't believe people still build XJ's when the grand cherokees are just as cheap to pick up these days. this things is sweet :smokin:

The only advantage of the XJ is it's a little smaller.

If I had nothing on my plate and needed to build a quick wheeler, I'd get one of these things. You can pick a mint one up for damn near nothing, and they're a hell of a lot stronger chassis than the XJ.
