Went for a rip up there with Sam (buggy), Steven (buggy) and Brad (TJ). I wasn't really sure what I was getting into since I hadn't gone before. I tried to take some pictures, but I was busy driving for the most part, and the other guys were not on it for that. We should have taken some passengers I guess.
Brad met up with me first and gave me the talk; don't be a fuckup because we've both got Jeeps and they'll ride us mercilessly if you are.
My collection of poor waiting for them at Stone Creek FSR:
Heading up the start of lower Baldy after unloading. Okay, nothing to worry about so far:
And we turn up the greasy buggy trail they cut up one of the washes... And:
I got wedged in between two stumps pretty hard. Brad did too, but I didn't get a picture, and had to winch. I might have some video though. But basically there's nothing but sloppy mud so good luck getting moving. My winch pulled me half way over, then died... Sweet. So Steven spun around and tried yanking me with his, but to no avail. Eventually got out with some tugging. I think one of those stumps will likely break off soon, making this easier. Otherwise I was able to full throttle assault my way through the rest of it. Brad being in front of me didn't help, he struggled way more than the buggies and tore everything to shit.
At the top of the greasy part and back on old road:
And this is where it became apparent something was not right with Steven's buggy. Turned out he'd fried his alternator. Which probably explained why his winch couldn't pull me. Luckily I was the only guy there who brought jumper cables, so I charged him up for a bit and we continued on for a while. Then we just wound up abandoning his buggy on the side of the trail because the alternator situation wasn't overly workable.
Sam wanted to run some new lines and get them established a bit better:
I was going to follow him in there but with a non-functioning winch it seemed foolish. Brad was not interested either. So Sam wound up winching himself all over the place in there. But clearly it will clean up and make for a nasty line with a lot of big rocks at some point.

Re: Baldy July 30th
I think this is back on the main trail:
Sam hitting another bonus line: Brad and I hit a line a little over from it, where Sam went was worse than it looks in the picture.
Back on the main trail: Main trail started to have some pretty good chunks on it at this point: Brad's front locker quit, bad air compressor, so it got "fixed": View at the top is nice: We screwed around up there following Sam. Hit a bunch of stuff. There was one rock face I couldn't climb because I was too short (nor could Brad, he didn't even try), and I didn't do the salad bowl (nor did Brad, again I think we would be too short, maybe I could have made it but it didn't seem likely), but otherwise I did everything Sam did.
One way or another I was following Sam again at that point. I think Brad wandered off ahead.Sam hitting another bonus line: Brad and I hit a line a little over from it, where Sam went was worse than it looks in the picture.

Coming back down:
Brad dropping off a rock:
This hill has some sketch factor to it due to the break:
Charging Steven's buggy back up to get out of there:
We ran back through the greasy stuff again, I was last in line following Sam again. Brad and Steven were way ahead. Suddenly a huge cloud of smoke erupted from Sam's buggy, so I stopped and got ready to grab my fire extinguisher... But no fire. A stick had smashed the oil pressure sender off the side of the block. Luckily I had a self taping bolt that fit perfectly in the busted fitting, so Sam just cranked it in there tight. Fired it up and no leaks. - Scott Cee AKA 2drx4

Re: Baldy July 30th
The two big fails on this were that we didn't take many pictures at all... And I bought a cheap action camera hoping to get some video to show guys that were curious about the trail, and it sucked to the point it's not watchable.
I will go through the video I took on my phone, hopefully some of it is okay.

That trail is on my to do list and I can never seem to get a running rig that far that I’m willing to take body damage on

I was glad I trailered.Scoobienorth wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 6:20 pm That trail is on my to do list and I can never seem to get a running rig that far that I’m willing to take body damage on
Would have been shitty otherwise. I had my winch cable draped over my hood and into my passenger window. Plus the loose link mount might have made things more squirrely than normal.
