There's no reason I can't buy a SYE and put it in any of the random 23 spline input NP231s I have, then swap it in as a unit when the time comes, right? The only difference between them is the tail housing, which you replace, and if it has the vacuum switches for early stuff, which you also remove.

Although I don’t have any kicking around, I’ve had similar thought pattern. Wonder which one of us should start worrying.

Got 'er and the driveshaft, so don't even have to buy the stupid companion flange. Looks like the tag on it does say 4L10 (4.10 limited slip), but I'll pull the cover and confirm. The guys who took it out went way less hack than I would have. Saved the ebrake cables and everything.

I think Ford makes a heavy duty clutch pack for that limited slip that isn’t that much money and works really well

I know guys were jamming an extra clutch in them too, or allegedly they were.

Snowracer might know if there's a HD upgrade.

The 8.8 is indeed a 4.10 limited slip.

It'll need some love but looks pretty decent. Good enough for this old junk.

Is there any advantage/disadvantage to the rear track bar bracket extension/relocation (making it taller) versus getting an adjustable track bar? I bought an adjustable one, plus a bracket kit to weld on, but I can put a taller bracket on instead too. It would theoretically raise the roll axis to go to a taller bracket, right? Does it matter?

Also, drill the front axle side bracket out for a bigger bolt? I can open up the sleeve in the bushing in the track bar I bought, that looks easy. I know they often wallow the bracket, it's all thin.

I have exchanged currency for garbage.

BOM looks like it's a 94-97 XJ axle. Which is good, it should have the newer (normal) knuckles and whatnot. Haven't pulled the cover to check ratio, but as per seller it's 3.55, which is likely as that is the most common XJ ratio.

Found some wheels for $100/each. 15x8 3.75 BS. Screaming deal compared with everything else I found that was actually in stock. Gone are the days of $60 wheels.

That’s a screaming deal. Most I’ve seen are a lot more than that

I fully expected them to send me an email saying they weren't in stock a few days after charging my card.

Hopefully they are round enough to balance

It's so cute. It's like a locker for a real axle, but only half the size.

Now hurry up and install it and see how it works. Not that I’m in a hurry. I’m still out sick and unable to pull wrenches. I got a real bad break with this thing

I've got one in the 60 front in my XJ and it works nicely, no issues. Can't even hear it clicking over all the other horrible noises.
