Newer F-150 rear axles

One of the guys at said he's got a rear axle from a 2011 (probably) F-150 with an e-locker. The axle tube allegedly is cracked near the wheel bearing, so basically it's scrap to him. It might be repairable but he needed the truck ASAP and got a whole axle from the wrecker.

What's the deal with these axles? Are they any good? Looks like a 9.75" ring gear? They're something of a miniature Sterling?

Is it worth it to at least grab the e-locker before it goes away?

i wouldnt think twice about running one in a half ton application. the Raptor runs the same diff other then being wider, and see lots of boosted F150s making some good power numbers with zero issues. the posi ones are knows to chatter but thats just a shitty posi, i have never sold a e-locker for one of them diffs due to failure

How wide are they? 67" or more?

The 9.75 center is beef. Probably on par with or better than some D60s.

The tubes are thin wall. The axle is on the wide side for the size vehicles most would swap it into. The bolt pattern isn't the most common. It's semi float only. And internet lore (i.e. one specific person on Irate) says that the larger wheel bearings actually have more failures than the old 8.8 stuff that used more smaller roller elements.

So yeah, if it's free and has a locker I'd run it.

Yeah, trying to get him to get me a picture of the crack. Sounds Iike it is somewhat common for guys massively overloading their 1/2 tons.

I don't really want to deal with it at the same time. But maybe somebody else wants it for cheap?

I guess a guy also could maybe throw some 14B or D60 spindles on it and make it full float since it's already fucked?

Bearing cups and UBs seem all around better if going that route.
