when i first built the truck it was 115-117 wheelbase then got pushed to 120 when did the rear spring swap. its kinda funny as 120 on the truck looked short but on the buggy it looks crazy long, but its cause the body is so small. it would have been nice to be in the 117-118 area but just not doable with how things are sitting ini the chassis as cant pull the front back as then have motor clearance issues for the uptravel i want ect

Re: The FSU trail buggy build
id guess in the 130 range, looking at pics of it the front diff is about the same spot as mine but rear id say is almost flush with the end of the chassis (that chassis has almost a foot of added tube ect to it where mine ends right now)pointsnorth wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 4:07 pm If your at 120. what is the wheelbase on the shredded lettuce tmr chassis that thing looks probably stupid long on 44s lol

I wouldn’t worry over a few inches of wheelbase, getting the axles where you need to get the chasis working better is more important.

Re: The FSU trail buggy build
yep, kinda knew i was going to be 120wb and that works well for most of the trails around here. little shorter would be better for fitting through the tight trees as i dont have front digs but oh wellScoobienorth wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 5:48 pm I wouldn’t worry over a few inches of wheelbase, getting the axles where you need to get the chasis working better is more important.

What surprises me the most is how much my front locker open rear setup turns. Considering I’m a lot longer than most I’m with. The rubicon’s need to lock both diffs to get the front in and that negates their wheelbase advantage. Adding the locker up front it steers way better in the tight trails and technical spots. With the fully locked rear it pushes you straight. A lot off the buggies in Sandhollow area run similar setups, full locker or spool up front and selectable rear, with it open most of the time.

Re: The FSU trail buggy build
this weekend was a bit of a bust on getting stuff done as spent most of my time looking at numbers and overthinking everything. fixed the rear upper links then checked travel and was trying to figure out pinion angle and driveshaft angles ect. did the same upfront and think i have most of it figured out.
had to move my front lower links in as the 39s would have rubbed, the 44s still touch at full lock but i can run a 1/2 wheel spacer or swap over to my other wheels for the 44s and will clear
also started to mock up rear shocks and its going to be fun getting both in there and clear everything

Re: The FSU trail buggy build
Just looks sexy with 2 shocks back there
On the front link clearance issue, just a tip, orientate your links so that when traveling forwards if your tire rubs it will try to tighten them. My tires rub and my passenger side lower link would come loose until i figured out what was going on.

i have more then enough clearance for the 39s so its only the 44s that will touch the link at full turn. i also have to run a 1/4 inch spacer to high steer arm clearance and it was not on when test fitting for link clearance, so im thinking a 1/2 spacer might be the money. i also have another set of 16.5 wheels with 4 inch of backspace vs the 5 inch im running now so could just swap to the other wheels and be ok but i like the spacer idea as im lazy

Re: The FSU trail buggy build
moved my frame side upper link mounts and reworked the links a bit, did the same on the front as well to help with pinon angle changes through the suspenion travel. got the front shock mounts built and tacked in place this weekend as well.
trying to fit the big 3" coil overs was a bit of a fight but with leaning them back a bit they dont stick up to high. also spent some time looking at bump stop locations and have a few ideas that i will work on next weekend

Re: The FSU trail buggy build
so turns out my front shock mounts dont work and the high steer arm hits the coil over at flex. tried a few different ideas and with no better luck so will have to go back to the drawing board. i gave up on suspension stuff for the weekend and worked on getting the rad mounted, fuel cell mounted and extended the back of the chassis for a rear winch and storage
added a tube and some feet for the lower rad tray to sit on
then uppper is some shock tabs and 1/2inch bolts so little over kill but nice and simple
to remove the rad just take the bolts out and the rad leans back enought to come out past the tabs
and being a trail buggy i did not want the rad behind my head and blocking my vision when looking behind me, its just above the rear shoulder bar but can see over it no problem
fuel cell mount
the flat bar is for the sides of the cell to hold it in place
turns out oil jugs fit rather nice beside the cell, will have to figure out a way to hold them in
then added 8" to the bottom of the chassis and thats enough room for a winch, then 12" to the top. hoping to build some storage above the winch for tools gear ect
