Hi all, I have a question regarding this truck.
It’s a 1975 Chevy Scottsdale 3/4 ton 4x4. The original 454 was replaced sometime in the 90’s with a 427 tall deck on propane. It has a manual transmission and tons of torque.
When the engine is running and the clutch is depressed it makes a loud squealing sound. I believe a local old timer called Rooster when he says that it is the throw out bearing.
I have a local mechanic with time on the weekends doing this job.
I know the engine is a 427 tall deck and it’s got an np205 transfer case but I need to figure out what part to order for the throw out bearing.
How can I figure out what the transmission is?
Transmission ID?
Re: Transmission ID?
if its attached to an np205 and its a 4 speed of that vintage its probably a sm465

Re: Transmission ID?
There's a HD clutch and input shaft for them though, IIRC, and there could be potential for that with the tall deck engine (although probably not). Likely it's just the regular SM465 setup and those parts are easy to get and cheap.
Re: Transmission ID?
Thanks for the info guys! It seems likely that it’s the SM465. Spoke to the mechanic today. He needs to get a transmission jack under it next to see if there are any other issues.
