I honestly think AR sheet makes more sense. Nothing really digs into it because it's so hard.

If you wanted to keep weight down backing the UHMW with some aluminum is an option.

Figure out how much coverage you actually need and use a steel weight calculator to see how much it will weigh. I don't think guys going with thick UHMW with a backer are saving much weight over going to with a lot thinner high grade steel.

You won't get through 1/4" AR-500 without trying real hard. 3/16" should be no issue with proper support.

I'm running .250 AR on mine. It's taken a beating, during race and comps, has only a few scuffs really. Not bad for being smashed over every rock in northern Idaho :lmao:

Heavier than I thought it would be.
I'll probably start looking into that then.
What is your biggest open span, and how much structure do you have behind it?
You know I've never really seen a build thread on your rig.... or even a decent set of pictures of it :stirpot: :poke:

When I first built it, it came out at 4900. Then I added steel bead locks, bed sides and skid plates and such. My skid is prob 150-200pds, i need a floor jack to install it :lmao:
There was a full build thread on it, was on another local forum, im not even sure I can access it or not as the site is down? Ill take a look.

Well, like most of you I'm getting time in the shop on and off and usually only for short periods. Today i actually got a few hours in and got my rear axle tubes welded, truss on, and upper/ lower link mounts on. Uppers are only tacked to see what happens when swinging. The upper right is tight to the bridge at ride height, but will likely be needing some clearance to the link at full bump. I have 2.5x.25 tube for the lower links already. I'm thinking about going with 2.25x.120 wall for he uppers. Was going to go with 2.5x.25 on the uppers too, but feel like it's huge overkill on a four link setup.

Around 42" upper, probably a touch longer on the lowers. I may move the axle back about 2" though. Not sure i like how short it is.
I likely have to cut the frame off in front of the axle. I won't have enough room for the bump travel I'm looking for, and the shocks will be tight as well...
Looks like things have changed on the build plans for this one. Turns out my wife really wants to keep the other blue one as well. Once wood cutting season is over, she wants me to fix that one up for her. She has been taking it out and bombing through our property lately. Made her fall back in love with it.
This rig will get put on slow down mode. I'm not going to stop working on it, but the other truck will take precedence until it's fixed up. Needs a trans, some suspension work, wheels and tires(unless she lets me get 4d's for me first lol) and other miscellaneous work...
