Why is this site not secure?
not that i know fuckall about web design, but i get a fancy red triangle and big warning that this site is not secure. it makes me concerned that i won't be able to access this site while at work over lunch
https://www.smashingmagazine.com/2017/0 ... ttp-https/
is it as easy as the article makes it sound or something?

Re: Why is this site not secure?
I have no idea how to get a HTTPS certificate in actual practice. I applied for it through the host and never heard anything back... I should probably try again but it hasn't seemed to be a big deal since a large portion of the traffic uses Tapatalk.
It's definitely not ideal and I've left it on my list of things to do at some point.

Re: Why is this site not secure?
get on it!
hell that other forum is more reliable than facebook or the news or even other DOD websites as far as access goes when i'm on a DOD computer. often there is no "confirm exception/continue anyways" in a web browser.
granted, i'm probably the only person that cares, but there might be others later
only on scheduled breaks and lunches, of course. or while traveling

Re: Why is this site not secure?
Apparently I actually have a certificate... They just never bothered to tell me.
I'll try to implement it tonight. I might need to send out an announcement first as it will cause some weird things.

Re: Why is this site not secure?
Umm, apparently I just implemented it. But I think I have to force it to HTTPS only, as it's still accessible using HTTP. But you can view/run the forum in HTTPS.

Re: Why is this site not secure?
alright, if i go to the main page https://4x4north.com and then click the link "enter forum" it takes me to the nonsecure forum
probably just a hotlink change there?
edit: otherwise, cruising around and posting and such this seems to work well

Re: Why is this site not secure?
I changed it to force it in the forum. Hopefully there is no fuckup things going on from that. I will have to try Tapatalk to make sure it is still working.
Oddly even if you like it as HTTPS it would revert to HTTP. I tried that first.
Next step is to change the main page too, so it at least gets rid of the warning.

Re: Why is this site not secure?
i ended up typing it directly in, then saving that as a 'favorite link' on my new tab page. it doesn't show the fun logo that way, but it does got to the right place
good enough for me, at least it means i should be able to access the page from anywhere as long as the certificate stays current. Thanks!
edit: nevermind all that shit up there! deleted my saved link, added it again as Https://4x4north.com and saved it, gives me the fun logo, takes me to secure site, clicking on the enter forum link takes me to the secure forum. dope!
