got the C swap done, had some issues but should be good

getting the old one off was not that bad, spent more time removing all the brackets for crap then the C itself

getting the used C on was not fun at all. heated it up and it went half way and got stuck. heated it and beat it and would not come back off, made a puller and just bent the shit out of some 1/2" steel and then blew apart. so cut the C off and had to start all over again
spent some time sanding the C and axle tube to make it less of a press fit, actually took to much off but welded it and with the shock mount tied in and will add a lower gusset i think it will be ok. got it all back together with new bronze king pin bushings, poly spindle bushings

We do alot of shrink fitting at work. Good practice is to mic the parts being joined before and while heating then you know for sure if the parts will fit. On critical components we will have a rough time we need to install the part and do a test measurement on the expansion piece with it off heat for that duration of time so we have a ball park idea of how long we have before it shrinks. You would be really surprised how fast some material shrinks, well i think you kind of experienced it

biggest issue is the 41 year old axle tube is not round anymore so has high spots. tried to sand them down but with my limited tools and skills it was a close counts deal. when i heated the first one i just did it with the tiger torch so feel like it only got the part the tourch was on and not the whole thing so cooled faster and why it only went half way

Most places recommend turning the tubes in a lathe to true them up for that reason... of course that's a lot easier said than done.
Does that donor housing still have the bearing caps? Or is it wasted trash?

been busy with some other projects and what not but got a race coming up so started working on the truck to get it ready for a good beating.
put some 37s on my daily, had to trim a little as only running 2" lift
then did the smart thing after putting bigger tires on the truck, went and bought a camper
so with the new camper we have been doing a bit of this
then had to rewire my car trailer as was having non stop issues the the lights, found some nastyness in the rear tube that lights where in
once done that and no camping it was time to look at the truck and get it race ready. finally washed the ugly turd
really didnt like the look of the front bumper/light set up after cutting the front end up so changed it up a bit and liking the new look
and went full douche with a light bar and green covers

so went and did the quesnel race and had a blast even if didnt do as well as i had hoped. found a big nasty crack in my header while loading the truck so that caused some tuning issues. the bearings in my stock steering column gave up so steering wheel was little stiff. truck took a good beating and drove on the trailer so pretty happy with that
i over shot one of the hill and spat my serp belt off again. need to beef up the mount a bit if im going to keep sending it

Did losing the serpentine belt cost you getting better results? Or did you finish before getting nuclear hot? Or just went nuclear hot and held it pinned?
