To truss or not to truss

Ok rookie question here and my lack of experience coming in here but with a parallel 4 link up front why weld a truss on to attach the brackets to the housing instead of just welding the brackets on to the housing. I get it if you’re running KOH and need the strength. But for me for example just building one of my wj’s for crawling and snow wheeling is it necessary if I was doing a one ton swap?

I doubt you need it for strength.

Now, for somewhere to attach the brackets, maybe.

I've seen too many bent Dana 30's and Dana 44's that never even got wheeled hard.
Truss it, or at the very least sleeve the inside of the tubes and gusset the C's.

Easy to do now especially if your welding link mounts on already.
Quite difficult to do when it's bent..

Oops, I think I read that wrong.
Are you running the wj diffs or swapping one tons in?

If wj diffs the truss it. If one tons and your not beating on it or jumping then run it.

My wheeling rig is a wj with jk dana 30 up front and wj dana 35 rear on 37’s. and I’ve kept it alive so I’m definitely not that hard on axles. I’ve got the 44a to swap in the back when the 35 decides it’s had enough. At some point I will be building a better hardcore rig with more tire and it makes the most sense to use my current daily since it’s it’s basically worthless as it’s a right hand drive wj. It’s super clean though. So I’ve been running through axle ideas. If I built the wj it would get 40’s at minimum and probably 42’s. and stay relatively low.

The adds on favorite for my axle swap would be my snow fighter 79 d60’s that I gave up north. But superduty axles would be second option.

And if I don’t build a wj it’ll be a jk since I’ve got a fair bit of parts for that and much like my current wheeling rig the housing is on borrowed time regardless if it’s trussed or not so probably an axles swap is needed anyways.

Dollar for dollar you won't go wrong swapping to 1 tons. I learned that the hard way and will never build anything less for a wheeling rig now.

Ya. I wanted to push limits on the stock stuff and see what exactly that entailed and now that I have I can see the benefit to the heavier housing and wheel bearings and ball joints especially even beyond the beefier axles and gear set. It’s been good learning how to not blow stuff up every trip too.
