I’d look into the comp spec winches that pack up tight , fairly fast and small drum. If you need length take it in tag lines. Do you want to respool or winch in 100 feet anyways if you’re pulling yourself a few feet. They are a little spendy but a good winch is worth it.

This the m8000 I’m talking about doesn’t get more minimalist then this. Make longer cables and mount the control box where ever you want. Under 900 before taxes and shipping

The m8000 is easy to clock the motor so you can get to the freespool however you mount it too

most of the smaller comp winches are just smaller and lighter weight. the warn one has same speed ratings as the larger winches

lets toss the m8 over in the same spot as the 8274 as its just to small of a winch. having a fast winch is pointless is you have to snatch block it to make it pull hard

warn does make a 9.5 on that same platform and its only marginally bigger then the m8000 but twice the price.
maybe finding a a good used one and hotroding it with a bigger motor and air shifted free spool would be a better option

there has to be tons of those warn 9.5 floating around the mall parking lots of pg. all the cool mall crawlers have them find one that has sat for a few years uncovered to the elements and now it doesnt work cause buddy spent his money on fraps at starbucks instead of a cover

there is no real advantage to spending more unless spending 2g

most of the warn winches use the same motor and just different gearing to get the weight ratings

M8 is a 4.8hp motor with 216-1 gears

8247 is a 4.8hp motor with 134-1 gears (why its so damn fast)

my big old M15 is the same 4.8hp motor but at 315-1 (very very very slow)

If that’s the case isn’t there a 6.0 hp upgrade for the 8274 that should fit any of the other warn winches?

I have an older warn Tabor winch that needs some love, thought about trying to put a bigger motor on it but wont really make it any faster as has a 261-1 ratio so will be slow now matter what

wonder if you could put a better motor on a shitybuilt winch as they have a better ratio at 162-1 on the 9.5 winch. all the shitybuilts use the same motor so get the weight from the gearing same as the warns. if you could put a real motor on 162-1 ration it would be wicked

Even a adapter plate would be fine as long as you had enough driveshaft engagement

The smittybuilt is a poor chassis. I pulled mine in half on my old Tmax which is the gen 1 smittybuilt.
