Cheap(er) winches

Post by Scott Cee AKA 2drx4 »

What's the current best bang for the buck winch? Still the Smittybilt ones?

I burned up the 8274 I use on my car trailer and really would like to go to something that isn't as heavy.

Snowracer talked me into buying some 8000lb wonder from Vevor.ca. It was cheap. Hope it shows up soon so I can see what it's like. :lmao:

Honestly it seems pretty legit. The controller is pretty meh, but it is both wireless and wired. It feels plastic and light, cheap, but what do you expect. Using it wireless you install a dongle on the winch. It takes a 4 pin connector for the controller though, so one might easily be able to just use a Warn controller if they wanted. It has a "solid state"??? or at least sealed integrated contactor. The wires have a bit soft feeling jacketing, and the heat shrink is junk. The fairlead seems pretty nice, actually, very smooth.

I weighed it with my fish scale, came in at 41lbs for the winch and rope. Add the other stuff and it's a bit more. We don't have a shipping scale right now or I'd throw it all on there to see. However, my old 8274 and cradle for my trailer weights 140lbs (I used the scale on my hoist to check), so one way or another this thing is well on the right track for that.

So, do I order another one for my TJ? :homer:

I’d probably use it at least a couple times and see if the line speed and current draw seem decent enough before ordering a second one

Yeah, it may be a POS. The thing is I only winch things on my trailer once every few months. I'd like to try it out sooner rather than later though.
