67 f250

Post by A_G »

My dads first truck a 1967 ford f250, purchased for 500 bucks in 1971 to haul hay and the ford 8n my grandfather purchased new in 67 it replaced a 48 ford f6.

My father drove it from 1976 to 1989. 2 kids and a bench seat didnt cut it and it got parked.

In 1996 he tried to start it so it could be moved and it caught fire.

Fast forward to 2007 I asked if I can have it and fix it up, all my dads stories about this truck I wanted it.

I was 17 I worked at a tire shop. I replaced some hoses got someone's spare 2150 carb plugs wires etc. I tried to start it, it caught fire again. Discouraged and inexperienced I put a pause on it, bought toyota pickup or 2 ...3 , started racing motorcycles etc.

Fast forward to last fall I decided to tackle it again, I have the tools...I have the experience, not necessarily the time but I'll make it and I have the money.

So on vacay in early January I set out to make it run. The catch fire was my dad had put the wires on 1 post off all the way around...I did the same thing. I stuck a Chinese 2150 on it. Plumbed it and she purred to life.

Took a quick assessment of what it needed to atleast move.

So far:
Clutch is frozen
Has a rusted freeze plug
Replumb fuel tank (that I cleaned and coated in 07)
King pins
Brakes to work
Wiring that the mice ate
Same for the seat
Tires and wheels
Some sheet metal.

So i made a goal to have it on the road driving by July. Not perfect but if i can drive it, it makes it easier to spend money on it

During my company's shut down, plumbed the vac lines and fixed the carb linkage and did some pity cheap shit to pass the time.

Company fired back up and I'm busier that ever but I cut some time out today to get it up on stands so I could pull the wheels.

I've got a set of tread right light duty recaps ditting in the barn. But I need to buy 2 wheels as fronts are 16s and rears 16.5s.

I had my company truck that made short order of the work today.

A chicken snake slithered across my back in the process though.

What are tre plans for it? You gonna daily it, or Sunday drive, or wheel it? I honestly think it would be a bad ass frame dragger with about 600 hp and air ride!

The 67 has a 352 with a rebuild on it from the 80s so probably .30 over. It has a np435 and a Dana 60. 2wd that is a bare bones model except camper special suspension. Dealer add on bumpers but its stock other than that.

A 352 is a FE family engine which includes the 427 all the same block just different bore and stroke. You can bore and stroke a 352 to 544 for about 2k I might do that might put a t56 trans in it.

So it's going to be a daily driver, haul a camper etc. I'm gonna fix the sheet metal, eventually bore and stroke it, relocate the gas tank. Put ac in it. Maybe a turbo. But nothing too extreme. I want to do all the cool shit but I want to keep it close to how it was when my dad owned it, sentimental you know?

Not exciting right.

Well my coworker has a 69 f100 with nearly perfect sheet metal 400m with a c6. Got it cheap but haven't picked it up yet, also bought a 429 off him. That one I'll slam or roll a new frame under and slam it

sounds awesome, thanks for sharing.

you do know that with 600 hp and air bags, you can still put a camper on it and sunday drive it, right? :flipoff: hell, probably better ride with that than the leaf springs will give you

rolling up to whataburger with a burned up truck and an old camper, park it and just dump the back :rasta: dope

Yes yes i know. Im gonna try to keep it as close to what it was when my dad drove it as i can.

That would pretty dope, maybe ill change it as i get closer to that step...maybe i just buy another one. They are cheap and parts are insanely cheap now. When i was 17 a inner fender was 700$ for a repop

now they are 150.00

Minus paint i can probably due this for less than 5 grand. IM about 400$ into it so far. I think making the first step is driving it from ranch to my house and im real close.

I know nothing about Furds, but will a ZF bolt up? They seem to be cheap, strong, and shift surprisingly nice.

not sure, but a zf6 is a gasser ratio isnt all that common a zf5 for a 429/460 is a hell of a lot more common might look into that.

Got the wheels in, painted them, mounted my retreads on them. Started to work on the brakes last week but there was rust chunks in the reservoir so I ordered a new master.

My stock carb spacer was plugged egr plate that had degraded so I ordered a spacer and installed it, no more vac leak, linkage no longer hits.

What I got left before I can drive it is finish cooling system which includes pulling intake and drilling out rusted off coolant bypass and tapping for a brass nipple. Finish brakes .

I'm picking up a bench seat from a 98-03 superduty for free and installing that.

Yall ever tried to put a tire that should be on a 8 inch wide rim on a 6 inch rim (actual measurement was 5.75 inches)?
Those are just rollers for now, I'd like some smooth alloys with Cooper cobras. And I never took a photo of the new 7 inch smile wheels

:smokin: that sounds like too much work for rollers  $50 for a set of 4 shit wheels with 'mostly holds air' tires is well worth it to me
