Re: Super Shopper Special
Had some time to finish mounting the trans and steering coolers. Bolted them together and drilled and notched
And hacked up a couple brackets that clear all the factory crap
Did a test fit and everything mostly clears
Then removed it all and painted up. Plumbed the lines from the coolers into the engine compartment
And got the front end back together

Re: Super Shopper Special
Onto the steering. I’m having trac bar/drag link angle issues. I need to either raise up trac bar axle location or lower drag link. Went with the drag link as don’t have much room at all for trac bar. Plan is to mount the drag link under the high steer arm, so I’ll tie into the factory knuckle mount and mount the drag link and tie rod the the bolt.
Busting out the dirty .750” reamer
And some arts and crafts for the mount. I plan to sandwich it with 2 .250” plates and some sched 80 pipe.
Started on the steel pieces. Got the big boy chucked up

And mounted up for test fit
Drag link should sit around here. Just need some misalignment spacers. Tie rod will be just under it
Now to paint it and build another one. I think they look like shit but it’s better than building it off the side of the high steer arm. I did that on my D60 and run into issues with backspacing and have to run spacers. This way it doesn’t affect it.

Re: Super Shopper Special
Black paint will hide that no problem.
Or maybe paint it all orange and say you got it from Reid Racing.

Re: Super Shopper Special
Despite the lack of updates I have been working on this thing. Been doing lots of small tedious crap like routing wires and air lines. I did finish weld the bumper, painted and final mounted it. Also mounted up the winch. The bumper is a DIY unit and was great to assemble and weld up but upon mounting I found the design couldve been slightly better as the winch mount bolts and 2 of the bumper bolts are almost impossible to get tightened up, took way too long to get them done up. Winch is a shittybuilt 10k X20, price was right so decided to give it a try, I also got it with synthetic winch line.

Re: Super Shopper Special
Plans have changed on the steering, I decided against the Tie rod pieces and instead will raise my track bar mount up another 1.5" and build a new trac bar. It will give me a better trac bar angle as well as drag link angle as it will be on top of the arm. Just doing a spring shop clean out re-organize and then back to it. I have a pile of parts on order and will be hitting this build hard in the next couple weeks. Time to get after it

Re: Super Shopper Special
Nice. Raising the track bar actually makes a noticeable difference to how on road stability feels with this style of suspension.

Re: Super Shopper Special
I was being a lazy asshole and coping out to do the steering mods when really I just need to do it properly I feel better about doing the trac bar even though it is more work, it will give me a better result in the end.Scott Cee AKA 2drx4 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 15, 2020 10:41 am Nice. And thanks for the steering box advice!
