Re: Top Ramen
Got started one my removable subframe. Fabbed up a transmission crossmember. Used a 2wd trans mount as it’s smaller then the 4wd version. The plan is too have a mount on the tcase as well so the trans is more of a secondary mount really.

Re: Top Ramen
Yeah I feel like most of us over build because it’s going to be used hard. But looking at diesel trucks that people pour the tunes and software upgrades too and nobody ever complains about a hardware failure aka crossmember or mount makes me ok with a light weight but structurally sound pieceHillBilt wrote:Nice, I like how you made the trans mount through the tube and welded on both sides. Way stronger that way

Re: Top Ramen
Those trucks aren't getting in what's basically minor crashes or high centering as part of routine operation though. Those trucks also break everything given enough time. And when they do break they're on nice flat ground where the problems are easy to deal with.pointsnorth wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 7:11 pmYeah I feel like most of us over build because it’s going to be used hard. Pretty much anything that's between the vehicle and ground needs to be really strong. Bent crossmembers and tweaked skid plates cause all sorts of operational headaches. Shit rubs on other shit. Shit hits the drive-line. Shit is too bent to R&R in any practical way. It's often just less of a headache to overbuild the structural stuff.

Re: Top Ramen
There is still a full skid plate to go on that will be flush with the lower link mounts. The crossmember itself should never be taking a hit or supporting the weight of the vehicle
Plan is too have skid plates from ahead of the oil pan too past the tcase. Currently I still have the stock lm7 oil pan but am on the look out for a f-body pan to gain the clearance I need

Re: Top Ramen
So been picking away at this thing as I have time but now it needs to get to the point of getting the cab back on. I’ve hired an employee and this is just getting in the way of making money. So I’ve made it a priority this week

Re: Top Ramen
This is where the bed height will be. I’m going to have to cut a bunch for clearance I’m thinking

Re: Top Ramen
Since it looks like the tire is touching the bedside right now, yeah, I'd say you'll have to trim a bit.
