Affordable zip cuts
so right now ive been doing a ton of cutting with my air powered angle grinder. But im going thru a ton of three inch zip cuts, walters seem to last the longest but are pricey. anyone out there found something comparable but a little easier on the wallet?

Re: Affordable zip cuts
So far I’ve tried 3m, Napa brand, and wurth brands and all with very sub par performance. The 3m with the stamped steel hub will actually blow apart if offered even a little resistance.

Mastercraft lasts about half as long as a Walter...would not recommend. Even powerfist is better..pointsnorth wrote: ↑Sat Jul 25, 2020 4:47 pm So far I’ve tried 3m, Napa brand, and wurth brands and all with very sub par performance. Re: Affordable zip cuts
I'm sure you've got more experience at fabbing than me, but I'll ask my dumb questions anyway:
Why are you using oddball (less common and therefore more expensive) zip disks?
What are you cutting that 4.5 inch won't work?
Do the three inch wheels use a 1/4 inch arbor hole like 3M die grinder adapters? (edit: looks like maybe they use 3/8 holes).
If so, could you get some kind of adapter to use standard 4.5 inch blades (7/8 arbor hole)? Once they get too small for your regular grinder save em for the little grinder.
Is there a better (more common) tool that can do the job instead?

Affordable zip cuts
Mostly I use if for tight close in work it’s for the most part way faster than a 4 1/2 grinder. And being that 95 percent of the tool I use are air powered. Time wise it makes sense
Going from a flat rate mechanic to a flat rate business’s owner has its challenges. Yes a 4 1/2 might be cheaper in the longer run but will never out produce my hot rod die grinder
