Long travel cvs for 2001 gmc 2500 hd

Post by pointsnorth »

so I figured I should document this in case it works

back story Ive built up a 2001 gmc for a customer over the last couple years starting with a zone 7 inch lift and 35s. he then went full send into a huge stump while recovering a moose on a hunting trip. Destroying the front suspension and then drove it a hundred kilometers to my shop with the front tires rubbing hard on the collapsed front suspension. So it was time for phase 2 replaced all the broken parts and installed a leveling kit at the same time of course now he cant get rowdy without tearing a cv boot (i told him this would happen) :lmao: and new 37s and baller rims. Shortly after I replaced the rear driveline as it left the chat at speed on a fishing trip. went heavy wall hd ujoints as he actually wheels this, at this time I replaced all the tie rods idler and pitman arm . About this time he was on his third set of cv shafts :lmao: and the power steering pump was toast. Phase 3 started with him ditching the box. Then him and his son built a sweet flat deck. That resulted with the rear sagging. so back in to my place for hd rear springs, powersteering box number two. 4.56 gears diff armor and wiring the deck. Oh and another set of cv shafts. Then he went off hunting again, big surprise he blew those cv shaft boots. :lmao: :lmao:

So i was doing some research and came a cross a catalogue for high angle long travel from napa. quick call nope not available in canuckastan, land of the free only. six months of bugging napa I have a set, the catch they only fit 2008 and newer gm trucks. the outer splines work but the inner bolt pattern is different so thats where im hoping to make this work. he has 9.5 inches for front lift and they do come up a bit short. he was running the standard compisite cv spacer and its like two inches and had destroyed one already as it puts to muck leverage on the bolts if the person actually wheel his ifs truck. the plan I have about 5/8 of a inch to take up the space and make an adapter

How different is the bolt pattern then? Should be easy though, assuming they're similar sized and the same number of bolts, so you don't have to do any stupid 2 piece stuff.

Here is a busted composite spacer that comes with all of these gm/chevy lifts these days. Any serious wheeling your snapping the 10x70 mm bolts pretty easy and you up with a busted spacer

So, is Napa going to be selling those in Canada now?
